First signs

Finally a warm southerly wind blew in wide blue skies. We headed straight to the top where the views are wide.

Hedges revealed old nests and birds prospecting for new ones. Larks rose on their column of song invisibly up into the blue.

A hidden burnished pheasant exploded into clucking flight, truly a disgruntled chicken of the woods. A small pond revealed an amphibian tryst and nearby scarlet elf cups, a dash of unlikely spring colour.

Eager bluebells were reaching for the light, building up for their blue debut.

On the way back the sky was hung with storm curtains of rain, sweeping grey across green upon green. With vivid rainbow windows hanging not arching. And in a never to be repeated moment, we were suddenly driving through the end of rainbow that appeared before us. Leaving us pondering just what that meant and how magical that was.
